![]() However, i don't trust other drivers with shit so the speed limit significantly increases my ability to drive on the road without being hit by an idiot. One example: I judge my own ability to choose the adequate speed for the road conditions and traffic, so the speed limit can at times be annoying. I am on board with the idea that communism won't work, but i have no evidence to believe the other extreme would be better. ![]() Regions ruled by a warlord are certainly not communist, but the people aren't free at all. Hell, fascism often promotes capitalism but the government is of course autocratic. So far communism has only been tried by force (and i'm not one of the "muh real communism was never tried", i think it does go hand in hand with force because you have to motivate people somehow, and you can't motivate them with money) but there are other forms of economy that still rely on autocracy. There are nuances in the spectrum but, whenever discussing ideals, one is well-served illustrating and comparing the extremes communism vs. If there is a monopoly and a competitor shows up, what stops the monopoly from selling at a loss until the competitor is bankrupt? I already said - this won't work if the monopoly is so bad that people are willing to accept higher prices from the competitor, but people are willing to take a lot of abuse. If someone is genuinely better and more innovative than the competition, they can swallow them and amass wealth and swallow any competitor because there is a second barrier of entry that you failed to mention - funds. which, quite frankly, doesn't convince me. ![]() The only barriers to entry in any endeavor are set by coercive force (of which government currently has a monopoly). ![]() I only said a lot of the potential benefits of a free market are under threat by monopolies and you have not given me any reason to believe they wouldn't exist other than this: I am not saying monopolies only exist in a free market, or that the current system doesn't subsidize them.
